Pay / GP registrar
General practice trainees are the one group of resident doctors not paid on the run-category grid. The NZRDA agreement sets a flat annual salary by completed years of post-graduate experience.

A flat annual salary, not a run-category grid. If during the GPEP year the registrar completes enough service to move to the next band, they do so on their anniversary date. cl. 8.9.1. This scale applies during GPEP year 1, when the College places you in a practice; in years 2 and 3 you negotiate your own employment with a practice.
Three and a half to four years on average, with a maximum of five years from the start of GPEP year 2 (excluding time on hold).
Placed by the College in one or two general practices under a GP kaiako and medical educators; seminars and workshops; clinical and written examinations at the end of the year. Salaried under the NZRDA agreement's GPEP scale.
Registrars find and negotiate their own employment with a practice.
Completing any remaining requirements before Fellowship (FRNZCGP).
