House Officer. Placed on the House Officer scale by years of post-graduate service as an RMO. Advances on anniversary of appointment. cl. 8.5.1
Registrar. Year 1 on appointment to a first Registrar position; relevant prior registrar service, including overseas, may be credited. Advances on completion of each 12 months' service. No progression beyond Year 5 without a training programme leading to vocational registration in New Zealand. cl. 8.5.2, 8.5.3
Higher Qualification Increment ('exam step'). Progress one extra step in the scale. The Registrar's sixth year of post-graduate medical employment. cl. 8.6

Training and leave

Protected teaching time. None hrs/week for house officers, None for other RMOs. cl. 26.1

Medical education leave. 5 days a year, plus up to 6 weeks a year for college or university study. cl. 26.2-26.5
