How pay moves

• House Officer. Placed on the House Officer scale by years of post-graduate service as an RMO. Advances on anniversary of appointment. cl. 8.5.1
• Registrar. Year 1 on appointment to a first Registrar position. Other registrar service, including overseas service, that the employer considers directly relevant is credited toward the commencement step. Advances on completion of each 12 months' service. A Registrar does not progress beyond Year 5 unless they are in a training programme leading to vocational registration in New Zealand. On later acceptance into such a programme they move up a step if they have been on Year 5 for 12 months or more, and their anniversary resets. cl. 8.5.2, 8.5.3, 8.5.4
• Higher Qualification Increment ('exam step'). Progress one extra step in the scale. Passing Part I examinations or equivalent College-set requirements. cl. 8.6

GPEP Registrars (General Practice Education Programme)

A flat annual salary, not a run-category grid. If during the GPEP year the registrar completes enough service to move to the next band, they do so on their anniversary date. cl. 8.9.1
